Ah Shene faces fresh charge

SUSPECTED gang leader Shaun Ah Shene was back in court for alleged intimidation yesterday, just a month after being released on bail following his arrest on a similar charge. Yesterday, the state asked the court to cancel his bail.

Ah Shene, 49, of Adcockvale, the suspected founding member of the Ah Shene gang, is accused of pointing a firearm at two men who previously reported a case of intimidation against him.

The complainants allege Ah Shene tried to block their way with his silver BMW as they drove along Searle Road in Schauderville at about 8pm on July 16. They claim he then pulled out a firearm.

They escaped and reported a case of intimidation and the pointing of a firearm.

Ah Shene was released on R500 bail on June 17, after  allegedly threatening the same men as they ate breakfast at the Metlife Mall Wimpy on May 21.

It was alleged Ah Shene had threatened to shoot them and bragged about his gang connections.

Taking the stand in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court for the first time yesterday, Ah Shene said he was confused as to why the police had arrested him.

While he admitted to the confrontation at the Wimpy, he denied the most recent incident where it is alleged he pointed a gun at the men.  - Kathryn Kimberley
