Gunmen kill Helenvale man

ONE person was killed and another wounded during a gang shooting in Helenvale yesterday morning.

Monique Kievits, 28, was shot three times in the chest while chasing two alleged gangsters who had stabbed one of his friends.

The shooting took place in Chamois Street, Helenvale, just before 9am.

Kievits's uncle, Richard, 39, who was on the scene, said he was alerted to the incident after a friend ran to his house to call him.

"I ran here with some other family members but it was too late. We are really shocked and stunned," he said.

"I honestly don't know why they killed him. I am still trying to find out what happened."

This is the second shooting in the same street since the beginning of the month. - Gareth Wilson
