A PORT Elizabeth grandmother has been living in a shack for three years because her RDP house was hijacked while she was in hospital.

Wheelchair-bound Funeka Tommy, 72, said she had to make do without a flush toilet or electricity because someone stole her Silvertown “dream house” in 2011.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and a ward councillor confirmed the housing dispute but were unable to explain why the problem had not been fixed for all these years.

The stand-off is between Tommy and Lindiwe Pike, 55, who illegally obtained the house keys from a site manager in 2011. The two women live a few streets apart.

“It’s very cold inside this shack. I want my house back but no one is doing anything about it. It’s painful to have a house that you can’t live in,” Tommy, who lives alone in the one- bedroom shack, said. – Hendrick Mphande and Thanduxolo Fatyi

The A.N.C. are unbelieveable! A lady steals an RDP house whilst the owner is ill in hospital and they are too weak and timid to do anything! What a disgrace? Proves that they are unfit to run a pig farm! unfit to run a country and unfit to run Port Elizabeth! WHAT A BUNCH OF LOSERS!!!!

I feel sorry for mama Tommy.
The blame should lie ont the ward councilor’s door. he should have sorted this out long ago. I wonder if Pike is not one of his/her buddies. they know who was occupying that site before houses were built so what’s the problem? why can’t they tell Pike to vacate the premises?
