Ex-girlfriend 'telling lies'

A MAN accused of murdering a Rhodes University student en route to her graduation in 2012 yesterday denied he had several items of clothing and a cellphone allegedly belonging to the victim at his home on the day of the murder.

Taking the stand yesterday in the Port Elizabeth High Court, Mxolisi Kitsana, 28, disputed claims made by a former girlfriend that on the day of the murder she had visited his home and spotted a black graduation gown, a black and gold dress, black shoes and a matching handbag.

Kitsana yesterday also accused his former girlfriend, Ntombethemba Plaatyi, of lying when she earlier testified at his trial, because she also said he had bloodstains on his clothing on the day of the incident.

Kitsana, of Motherwell, is charged with kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and the murder of Lelona Thembakazi Fufu, 24, on April 12 2012. - Lee-Anne Butler
