A BRAZEN daylight robbery in the centre of Port Elizabeth's Boardwalk casino, in which more than half a million rands was snatched yesterday, was carried out so stealthily that gamblers were not even aware of it.

Two men – one armed with a pistol – posed as patrons and managed to slip past security and rob a staff member of a trolley briefcase containing an estimated R660000 while other patrons continued gambling, oblivious to the drama around them.

The robbery happened on the gambling floor inside the casino just after 11am and the suspects escaped out the smokers' section entrance, opposite the Boardwalk Hotel.

The robbers fled on foot with the trolley briefcase before jumping into a getaway car – a silver BMW with fake licence plates – which is believed to have been parked in the nearby car park. They are still at large. - Gareth Wilson
