Task team clampdown results in 98 arrests

THE newly established special gang task team has arrested 98 suspected gang members in less than three months.

Millions of rands have been spent on the training of the officers, all hand-picked, with a collective 232 years' experience.

In turn, the team has built strong cases against some of the city's most feared gangsters.

Several suspected senior gang members were arrested in recent months, including alleged Chinas founder Shaun Ah Shene on a charge of intimidation, Dustlife's co-leader Wendell Petersen, for attempted murder, Upstand Dogs senior member Rodwell "Boef" Peters for murder, and Spotbouers senior member Hans Jordaan for attempted murder.

Three of the four men are still in custody.
