Petrol price rising to R14 for a litre

CONSUMERS will pay more at the fuel pumps come Wednesday as prices are set to rise in line with the resurgence of oil prices.

The latest petrol and diesel price increases will bring the price of petrol to around R14 a litre, while diesel will climb to more than R13/l, both at the coast and on the Reef.

The Department of Energy said the weaker rand in relation to the US dollar and the latest increases in crude oil prices were to blame.

The department said petrol would increase by between 29c/l and 31c/l, depending on the grade.

Diesel will rise 14c/l, while paraffin is to rise by 31c/l and liquefied petroleum gas by 58c/kg.

The rand depreciated from R10.40/$1 to R10.68/$1 and crude prices rose to $115 a barrel on June 19, officials say. – Siya Miti
