Legal Aid lets defence consult its own expert

THE trial of a man accused of murdering an accomplice who turned state witness in 2009 was postponed in the Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday after the Legal Aid Board agreed to fund his request for his own handwriting expert.

This comes after the court ruled on Tuesday that a warning statement which allegedly contains a confession and is allegedly signed by the accused be admitted as evidence. The man denies the signatures in the statement are his.
