Hani drunk driving charge on hold to await test result

A CHARGE of drunk driving was provisionally withdrawn against a former Nelson Mandela Bay acting municipal manager who was nabbed after allegedly crashing his Mercedes Benz in Summerstrand on Tuesday night.

Themba Hani was detained at the Humewood police station before being released on R800 bail.

He was not required to appear in court yesterday and his matter was provisionally struck from the roll pending the outcome of his blood alcohol results, which can take up to six months. Once the results have been obtained, the director of public prosecutions will then place the matter back on the roll and Hani will be summonsed.

It is alleged he continued to drive towards the airport, where he was eventually pulled over by another motorist. Witnesses alleged he had passed out behind the steering wheel. – Kathryn Kimberley
