Ex-top official in arrest drama

FORMER acting municipal manager of Nelson Mandela Bay Themba Hani was arrested for alleged drunk driving after his Mercedes- Benz crashed into a pavement and the car drove off shortly before 6pm yesterday.
Hani was arrested and taken to the Humewood police station after the incident about 30m before the Strandfontein and La Rochelle Drive intersection.
He was released on R800 bail at 11pm with a warning to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court today.
Council speaker Maria Hermans and ANC MPL Christian Martin arrived at the station to fetch him after his release. - Gareth Wilson
