Action plan to address problems in Walmer

Picture: MIKE HOLMES[/caption] NELSON Mandela Bay infrastructure and engineering boss Andile Mfunda yesterday promised to meet with residents from the troubled Walmer township on a fortnightly basis to keep them informed of developments in the area and to try to avert further violent unrest. Mfunda's commitment comes after ANC national spokesman Zizi Kodwa lambasted the city's bosses last month, saying they had taken residents for granted by failing to properly communicate with them on service delivery matters. Mfunda, municipal public accounts committee (MPAC) chairman Jimmy Tutu, some infrastructure and engineering portfolio committee members and Walmer Ward 4 councillor Nomajama Benya had a meeting with the area's steering committee, where it was agreed the parties would meet fortnightly and hold a public meeting every month. - Mkhululi Ndamase
