Two shot in ongoing gang-related violence

TWO people were injured in the latest gang-related shooting in Helenvale yesterday afternoon.

Police said at about 5.20pm eight shots were fired as a man was chased by another from Deverill Road into Leith Street.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans confirmed the incident was gang-related. He said the man had run through several yards while trying to escape the gunman and an innocent man had been shot and wounded in the process.

He said Preston Peterson, 22, was injured after being chased, and had been shot in both arms, his upper thigh and suffered a bullet graze to his stomach.

Henry Jordaan, 53, who was standing in his yard at the time of the shooting, was hit in the right leg and right ankle.

Labans said both men had been taken to hospital and police were investigating two cases of attempted murder.

"The shooter involved in this incident is known to the police and an arrest is imminent," he said. – Lee-Anne Butler
