Plan to get Helenvale lights fixed blocked by ANC

THE ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay shot down a motion by the DA to fix street lights in Helenvale.

One of the Bay's most notoriously gang-ridden areas, Helenvale remains in darkness due to shortages of spares in the metro's stores.

This puts pressure on the ward councillor, Nico du Plessis, who said he was constantly bombarded with questions from members of the community wanting to know why the lights were not repaired.

At a council meeting on Friday, Du Plessis pleaded with city manager Mpilo Mbambisa to investigate and provide a report on the steps that he would take to repair the street lights. This request was shot down by the ANC. - Rochelle de Kock
