WHEN well-known Sardinia Bay racehorse breeder and pharmacist Ian Robertson turned 70, he did not want 25 bottles of whiskey.

Instead, he asked for donations for Dora Nginza Hospital's paediatric oncology unit – and received about R23000.

Yesterday, he handed over his birthday present in the form of a state-of-the-art bioline monitor, to the ward where it is desperately needed.

The head of paediatric oncology at the hospital, Dr Johani Vermeulen, said they were very grateful for the donation as they had to borrow monitors from other wards. - Estelle Ellis
