Samwu wants Cacadu mayor and municipal manager fired

SAMWU in the Eastern Cape wants Cacadu's mayor and municipal manager fired, claiming it had failed to act against an alleged corrupt official.

This comes as President Jacob Zuma hailed the municipality as one of the 11 best in the country – under mayor Khunjuzwa Kekana and municipal manager Ted Pillay's leadership.

SA Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) provincial organiser Chumani Gqeke said yesterday the union was calling for the heads of the two because they protected finance manager Tilani Botes, whom the union claims was fraudulently paid R43000 in overtime during the 2010-2011 financial year.

The union also alleges there was nepotism when Botes's husband was awarded a contract to translate municipal documents into Afrikaans and English in 2009. - Mkhululi Ndamase
