Four defiant ANC councillors to face disciplinary hearing

FOUR Nelson Mandela Bay ANC councillors have been charged with violating the party's constitution by undermining structures and defying caucus decisions.

This comes after the four – Mike Tofile, Lawrence Troon, Zukile Jodwana and Thanduxolo Jacobs – were hauled before their Eastern Cape bosses earlier this month and told to toe the party line.

On Wednesday, the councillors received charge sheets summoning them to appear before the provincial disciplinary committee at the ANC's provincial headquarters, Calata House in King William's Town, on July 6. They will have to explain why they did not support an ANC caucus decision to approve the organogram for the metro police as well as a council agenda item relating to the budget for the new force. - Rochelle de Kock
