Cannibal' case hearing postponed

THE man who allegedly cut out the heart of his ex-girlfriend's lover – and then ate it with a knife and fork – has a history of violence, a court heard.

Andrew "Master Benson" Chimoza appeared in court in Cape Town on a murder charge yesterday.

Chimoza, 34, was arrested last week for allegedly attacking and mutilating Mbuyiselo Manona.

The savage attack, inside a house belonging to a friend of Manona in Gugulethu, was witnessed by horrified neighbours.

Yesterday, his new girlfriend's mother, Nomzi Vaphi, said Chimoza had been living with her 26-year-old daughter, Lynnette, in Langa for two years.

She said she had discouraged her daughter from dating Chimoza because of his violent behaviour.

She was also aware of another of his relationships.

In one fight, he was so angry that he stripped off all his clothes during the fight, Vaphi said.

A psychiatric examination was ordered and the case postponed to July 9. – Philani Nombembe
