Few hopes for speech

EASTERN Cape opposition parties would like a detailed plan from President Jacob Zuma on how the government intends creating jobs and growing the economy in his last five years in office, when he delivers the state of the nation address in parliament today – but they are not hopeful.

All eyes will be on Zuma, who was rested by the ANC last week because he was "tired" from criss-crossing the country on the election campaign trail.

The state of the province's agriculture should also be prioritised to prevent people from migrating from rural to urban areas, the Economic Freedom Fighters and the Congress of the People said yesterday.

DA provincial leader Athol Trollip said he did not expect Zuma to have plans for growing the economy and creating jobs. - Mkhululi Ndamase
