Charges laid against man for dragging dog behind car in Knysna

A case has been opened against a man who allegedly dragged his dog behind his car with a rope in Knysna, the Animal Welfare Society said on Tuesday (17/06/2014).

Knysna Animal Welfare Society chairman Martin van Leeuwen said two residents from Brenton on Lake had laid an animal cruelty charge against the dog's owner after the incident took place on Thursday.

Southern Cape police spokeswoman Captain Bernadine Steyn confirmed that the case was opened on Friday at the Knysna police station.

"On June 12 [Thursday] at about 4pm a dog was allegedly dragged with a rope around its neck behind a vehicle in Galjoen Street."

She said no arrests had been made.

The Star reported that the dog's owner had a rope tied around its neck and dragged it behind his car.

He allegedly dragged the dog in a fit of anger after the animal escaped from his house.

The dog was admitted to the Knysna Veterinary Clinic on the same day. - Sapa
