EASTERN Cape SA Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) leaders appear to have escaped suspension by their national bosses for being vocal against the national executive for expelling president Thobile Ntola.

The provincial executive committee (PEC) spent days trying to come up with reasons why they should not fall under a collective axe after the national executive told them two weeks ago of their intention to suspend the entire provincial leadership.

The provincial body made their submission at a special national executive committee meeting in Kempton Park on Wednesday.

The PEC has been instructed to toe the line and keep their views to themselves as the union desperatelytries to paper over the cracks caused by the recent axing of Ntola. - Zandile Mbabela
