Councillor hits back after rebuke for not toeing ANC line

A NELSON Mandela Bay councillor has sent a scathing letter to ANC Eastern Cape boss Phumulo Masualle challenging the fairness of a recent meeting in which he and three other councillors were told to toe the party line.

Veteran ANC activist Mike Tofile wants to know why he and councillors Thanduxolo Jacobs, Lawrence Troon and Zukile Jodwana were not given a chance to tell their side of the story when they were summoned to the ANC's provincial headquarters, Calata House in King William's Town, earlier this month.

He has also lashed out at ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane for saying the four were ill-disciplined and should be disciplined for defying ANC caucus decisions.

Mabuyane – who did not attend the sitting – said the purpose of the meeting was to give the councillors an ultimatum to shape up or ship out, and that the ANC would not allow anarchy to prevail - Rochelle de Kock
