A PORT Elizabeth lawyer who stole money from one of his clients will clean the Mount Road police station as part of his sentence.

Thobela Qampi, 36, of Sydenham, was convicted of stealing R40000 from a client's trust, money meant for the sale and transfer of a property.

But Qampi is no stranger to run- ins with the law.

On Monday, he appeared in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court for a separate case of theft involving R316000. In that matter, he is accused of stealing money from three of his clients.

Yesterday, Port Elizabeth Regional Court magistrate Tobie Gerber said Qampi had brought the legal profession into disrepute. - Kathryn Kimberley
