Rape: doctor acquitted

A PORT Elizabeth doctor accused of raping his patient, and a friend who allegedly tried to cover it up, have been acquitted on all charges.

Dr Nasiev Syed, 49, of Malabar, recently appointed as chief executive of a Port Alfred hospital, was found not guilty in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court yesterday, almost four years after a patient accused him of rape.

Attorney Alwyn Griebenow said afterwards that justice had prevailed, although it had taken several years for the court to come to a just decision. - Kathryn Kimberley
