DNA samples drawn in front of police

A NURSE who took samples for DNA analysis from one of the six men accused of murdering an elderly couple in Port Elizabeth in 2009, yesterday told the Port Elizabeth High Court that the samples were drawn in the presence of a police officer and were securely and individually sealed.

Senior staff nurse Judith le Roux, of Dora Nginza Hospital, said she had drawn blood and taken two separate hair samples from Makwenke Lunga Pamle shortly after his arrest in 2009. The samples were later sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Cape Town.

Last month, the court heard a forensic analyst testify that Pamle's DNA had been found on several swabs taken from exhibits found at the crime scene. Pamle's DNA matched various swabs, including from a pick handle, a pick head and a body fluid stain. - Lee-Anne Butler
