Young Joshua pays back by loving animals

A YOUNG Port Elizabeth boy's love for injured animals has led him to dedicate most of his weekends to their care.

Joshua Lourens, who turns 13 next week, is a volunteer at Animal Anti-Cruelty League shelters, and has already clocked up more than 1000 community service hours.

The Cape Recife pupil has been on spayathons in Alicedale and Port Elizabeth, in dipathons and has worked at flood stations.

The Grade 6 pupil, who works alongside his mother Rosalind, said he started working with animals three years ago and his passion for the job had increased with each year. - Thulani Gqirana
