Cop dies while aiding at domestic dispute
AN Eastern Cape policeman was killed while attending to a complaint of domestic violence this week.
Constable Phumlani Mgoboli died in hospital on Wednesday after being attacked while protecting a woman at her home in Bulungula locality, at the Xhorha administrative area in Elliotdale.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Celiwe Binta said yesterday police would mourn the "tragic loss of this hero".
Police spokeswoman Brigadier Marinda Mills said Mgoboli, 29, and another officer responded to a domestic complaint.
"A scuffle ensued between Constable Mgoboli and a man in the house. He stabbed Constable Mgoboli with a panga on the head," she said. "The other officer fired shots."
Both Constable Mgoboli and the wounded man died in hospital.
