ANC urges Zuma to take a break

The leadership of the African National Congress has decided President Jacob Zuma should take a break, the party said on Friday (06/06/2014).

The first change in Zuma's programme was a decision that his deputy Cyril Ramaphosa would speak in his place at a National Education, Health, and Allied Workers' Union congress.

"Following the decision of the national officials of the ANC that President Zuma should take time off to recover from the intense general elections campaign, his deployment to [the] Nehawu congress today [Friday] has been re-assigned to... Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa," the party said in a statement.

An earlier ANC statement said the party leadership "has asked President Zuma to take time off from work following an intense elections campaign".

It added: "The president, however, came to greet attendants of the ANC lekgotla in Irene. As expected, he briefly gave a political overview to the lekgotla and left." - Sapa
