Community upheaval grows at Limekhaya

MEMBERS of the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC) at a Uitenhage high school have slammed the provincial Education Department for how they are dealing with a Grade 9 teacher at the centre of a string of accusations.

Buyiswa Qundele of Limekhaya High School has been accused of verbally abusing pupils and parents and enforcing corporal punishment.

The QLTC is an initiative by government, community stakeholders and business started in 2008 to safeguard and ensure quality education in the country.

Besides their unhappiness over Qundele – whose case is being investigated by the department – the QLTC lambasted eight teachers for staying away from school for a week without explanation. - Tremaine van Aardt
