Last-minute rush to take down election posters

POLITICAL parties in Nelson Mandela Bay are in a rush against time to remove their election posters or they could be slapped with a hefty fine of R1000 per poster.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's by-law on election posters dictates that the placards must be removed within 14 days of the election date, but many parties have failed to comply.

The metro has issued the parties with notices to remove their posters, but it is confident that it will not be necessary to issue fines because the various parties are in the process of removing them all.

Municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki said: "We are satisfied with their intention to meet deadlines. We have been going around the metro [and] we have seen them pulling down their posters. - Rochelle de Kock
