Concern over slow spending of capital budget

COUNCILLORS lashed out at the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's infrastructure and engineering department for spending only 49% of its capital budget with only a month to go before the next financial year.

Although officials have continuously blamed the city's supply chain management department – which deals with tenders – for holding up major infrastructure projects, councillors said they were tired of hearing the same excuses.

If the metro does not spend all its grants from the national Treasury by the end of the financial year, it would be difficult to ask for more money to fund further development projects. - Rochelle de Kock
