More probes into Nkandla scandal

INDIVIDUALS or companies not directly involved in alleged wrongdoing, but who may have had a hand in the R246-million Nkandla security upgrades, are also in line to be probed over the scandal.

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) wants third parties who may have indirectly played a part in the inflation of prices of services and goods that went into security upgrades at President Jacob Zuma's private residence in KwaZulu-Natal to answer to allegations against them.

Exactly what these allegations are, the SIU refuses to divulge.

According to a letter from Department of Public Works director-general Mziwonke Dlabantu to public protector Thuli Madonsela – written to inform Madonsela of progress made in implementing remedial action recommended by her office following the release of the final report into the Nkandla upgrades – 10 current or former employees of the department, including a former acting director general, were cited by the SIU as "probably guilty" of misconduct. – Olebogeng Molatlhwa
