Woodridge claim provincial debate championship title

WOODRIDGE College senior debating team emerged victorious in a heated debate against Grey High School last week and walked away with the South African Council for English Education (SACEE) Eastern Cape Championship trophy.

In the buildup to the final, Woodridge battled out topics centred around the elections and important issues in our society against Alexander Road High School, Theodor Herzl and Collegiate Girls' High School in previous weeks to become contenders in the final clash against Grey.

The final debate, which was held at Alexander Road High School last Thursday saw Woodridge and Grey High School pupils battling it out on the issue asking, "Are South Africans ready for a lady president?" and had the winning team of Woodridge pupils Heinrich Cox,17, Kim Brink,17, and Angus Teeton,17, entirely for the motion.

Teacher in-charge Mary-Anne Lagan described the debating team as "undefeated". - Chanice Koopman
