Turok does some straight talking

IF South Africa is to retain its position as a gateway to Africa, the country needs to stop importing everything, develop a sophisticated Africa policy and prioritise job creation, ANC stalwart Professor Ben Turok said last night.

Turok was speaking at The Herald/ NMMU Community Dialogue on his book, With My Head Above the Parapet: An Insider Account of the ANC in Power at NMMU's North Campus conference centre.

He stressed that to grow the economy, South Africa should improve its key contributors – mining, agriculture and manufacturing.

"Our economy has stalled. Our three main economic areas are mining, manufacturing and agriculture. All three have stalled. The growth rate in all three is very, very low. - Mkhululi Ndamase
