Doctor describes couple's injuries

A DOCTOR testifying at the trial of six men accused of murdering an elderly Thee- scombe couple in 2009 yesterday described in detail the horrific injuries inflicted on the two pensioners shortly before their deaths.

Dr Dave Kalev, chief medical officer of the forensic pathology service in Port Elizabeth, was testifying on the chief postmortem findings of his former colleague, Dr Volodia Angelov, who died in 2011 before he was able to testify in the matter.

Both George Venter, 78, and his wife Jacoba, 67, were brutally assaulted in their Kragga Kamma Road home on the night of May 31 2009 or early the next morning.

George died at the scene but Jacoba was rushed to hospital after their domestic worker arrived at the house and called for help. Jacoba died days later in hospital. - Lee-Anne Butler
