Cacadu to focus on development

THE Cacadu District Municipality approved a tight R167.4-million total budget for the 2014-15 financial year yesterday, with the lion's share set aside for infrastructure development and helping local municipalities to improve their audit outcomes.

The budget is down 17% from the 2013-14 financial year due to a decrease in conditional grants from the national Treasury.

It is split into the operating budget of R153.7-million and the capital budget of R13.73-million.

Large chunks of the district's budget for the 2014-15 year will go towards constructing new fire stations, building a new bus terminal in Graaff-Reinet, and contributing money towards two major water treatment works projects in Jansenville and Nieu Bethesda. - Rochelle de Kock
