Trollip gets a rough ride in Bhisho

NEWLY elected speaker of the Eastern Cape legislature Noxolo Kiviet had her work cut out yesterday – day one of her new job – when she was forced to call the House to order after provincial DA leader Athol Trollip was jeered by some ANC MPLs.
The jubilant atmosphere in the Raymond Mhlaba Chamber in Bhisho during the swearing in of former finance MEC Phumulo Masualle as premier and scores of MPLs into the new administration soured when Trollip took his turn at the podium.
Sniggers and snide remarks turned to full-scale heckling when Trollip addressed the new premier, accusing him of beginning his tenure under "an ominous cloud". - Barbara Hollands
