Many instances of improper expenditure not acted on

NELSON Mandela Bay city manager Mpilo Mbambisa will tomorrow ask council for its buy-in to interrogate a string of internal audit investigation reports which detail allegations of mismanagement, fraud and soliciting a bribe by officials.

In a confidential report to be presented at tomorrow's council meeting, Mbambisa wrote that he planned to "advise council on the existence and status of the forensic reports prepared by the internal audit [department] and contracted service providers and on behalf of the municipality".

He also planned to recommend how to deal with all reports and ensure the perpetrators were brought to book.

The metro is under immense pressure from the national government, including Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, who in his visit to the Bay in August ordered the city to clean up its administration and show how it will deal with findings contained in forensic reports. - Riaan Marais and Rochelle de Kock
