Fed-up Pikoli demands answers

FORMER National Prosecuting Authority boss Vusi Pikoli has questioned why it has taken Nelson Mandela Bay municipal bosses 14 months to discuss his explosive forensic report, which blows the lid on how millions of rands meant for the city’s new bus system were allegedly squandered.

Pikoli, who had a closed- door meeting at the City Hall with the ANC caucus yesterday, has made it clear  he stands firmly by the findings contained in his report and that all those implicated  were interviewed or given an opportunity to respond.

Reacting  to questions  by councillors on the legitimacy of his appointment and if his services were procured through the normal tender processes, Pikoli  said he was approached by law firm Brown Braude & Vlok, which is on the city’s legal panel, to investigate the troubled Integrated Public Transport System.

The  report covers one of the metro’s biggest money scandals, involving at least R6.7-million that was allegedly misused on inflated salaries, bonuses, unauthorised loans and donations.  - Rochelle de Kock
