Maritzburg United in R36m deal to relocate to Bay

PREMIER Soccer League (PSL) side Chippa United is not moving to Nelson Mandela Bay and no offer was made for the team to relocate from Cape Town, budget and treasury portfolio head Balu Naran said yesterday.

Rubbishing earlier claims by Chippa United boss Siviwe "Chippa" Mpengesi that he was in discussions with the municipality and the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium management about moving the team to the city permanently, Naran said it could not be further from the truth.

This comes as Mpengesi confirmed on Saturday that the team's dream of coming to the province had been thwarted by advanced negotiations between the metro and Maritzburg United. - Rochelle de Kock
