WOODRIDGE College pupils were this week given a lesson on appropriate online behaviour by well-known social media and law expert Nicholas Hall.
With cyber safety for children being a topical issues globally, Cape Town-based attorney Hall visited the school on Monday to address pupils on social media and the law.
Hall touched on different examples of social media incidents and the legal implications there of. These included instances where pupils sometimes found themselves in difficult situations in which they were linked to things they are unaware of. Woodridge College headmaster, Simon Crane, said the topic was an important to address in all schools and they were pleased to be addressing it head-on.
“School children today face challenges that are entirely different from those we faced in our youth,” he said. “As a father of a nine-year- old girl and a six-year-old boy and as headmaster of a school that provides education to almost 600 pupils, we take this matter very seriously indeed.
“As adults and as pupils we need guidance and direction and in bringing Nicholas to Woodridge we have taken an excellent step towards dealing with this controversial topic.” – Chanice Koopman
