Province plans Liberation Route to boost tourism

THE Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) is looking to the past to propel the province forward with talks well under way and development plans being implemented to establish a Liberation Route.

ECTPA board chairwoman Vuyo Zitumane said the agency had been in talks with key roleplayers, such as the National Heritage Council and Department of Tourism, since last year in an effort to use a "Home of Legends" title to attract tourism.

The route will guide tourists to heritage sites and unique experiences relating to liberation icons such as Nelson Mandela, Chris Hani and Govan Mbeki among others. - Tremaine van Aardt
