Huge blow to COPE in East Cape

COPE, which once stood proudly as the official opposition in the Eastern Cape, suffered a devastating blow in this election, coming out as the biggest casualty.

Provincial and Nelson Mandela Bay COPE leaders have blamed factionalism, infighting, voter apathy and what they believe was a looting of funds, for the party's poor performance in the provincial and national elections this week.

As voting results came in yesterday, it fast became clear that the party would not even feature in the top four in the province.
