Excess teachers must apply for posts
SURPLUS Eastern Cape teachers who were not successfully moved in the redeployment drive earlier this year to where there are shortages will have to apply for one of thousands of posts advertised in a closed bulletin issued by the Education Department yesterday.
The vacancy list – consisting of 3370 posts for entry-level teachers, heads of department and deputy principals – is geared only at displaced teachers deemed additional to what schools need according to this year's teacher post basket.
The bulletin forms part of the "breakthrough multi-phased Collective Agreement 1 of 2014" signed between unions and the department at the Education Labour Relations Council in January in a desperate bid to address crippling teacher shortages in the province. - Zandile Mbabela
