Housing protest leaders join DA to challenge ANC


NINE years ago Mzonke Poni was organising the Western Cape’s first service delivery and housing protests, by invading open pieces of land and barricading roads.

Today he is a member of the DA.

Former Abahlali baseMjondolo (AbM) Western Cape chairman Poni was at the forefront of violent protests in Cape Town.

“It’s a decision I’ve taken at a personal level,” he said yesterday. “The decision to join the DA is a decision that comes out of my heart, and this decision has nothing to do with Abahlali baseMjondolo.” – Quinton Mtyala
