More attacks on PE non-strikers

THREE more houses belonging to non-striking Ngqura container terminal workers were stoned and petrol bombed late on Tuesday.

This brings to 16 the number of violent acts since the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) started striking on Friday.

Numsa wants Transnet to accede to staff working three hours followed by an hour's break. Transnet has suggested reducing shifts from five to four hours followed by an hour's break.

The non-striking workers belong to other unions.

Eastern Cape Terminals general manager Siyabulela Mhlaluka said: "We have reported the incidents to relevant security agencies and members of the public are encouraged to report incidents of criminal behaviour." – Yoliswa Sobuwa
