ANC puts lid on Nkandla debate

THE ANC used its majority yesterday to ensure the end of any parliamentary debate on improvements to President Jacob Zuma’s homestead at Nkandla until after the election.

ANC members of the parliamentary ad hoc committee to consider Zuma’s response to public protector Thuli Madonsela’s report on the Nkandla improvements voted with the IFP to refer the matter to the new parliament, to be elected on May 7.

The DA and Freedom Front Plus voted for the committee to continue its work, but were outvoted by seven votes to three.
