DRY LAND: The rescued crew arrive in Port Elizabeth

QUICK thinking by 20 fishermen whose boat started sinking off the Plettenberg Bay coast saved their lives when they steered to a busy shipping lane and were rescued by a vessel en route to Singapore.

The ship dropped them off at the Port Elizabeth harbour in the early hours of yesterday.

The men, who were housed at the city’s harbour until they were transported back to Cape Town yesterday morning, were found on a life raft as the last bit of their 23-metre long line-fishing vessel went under, about 120km off the Plettenberg Bay coast. – Zandile Mbabela
