Vaccine against flu vital for moms

IN the first study of its kind in South Africa, researchers have found the influenza (flu) vaccine halved the chances of pregnant women contracting the virus.

Professor Shabir Madhi, professor of vaccinology at the University of the Witwatersrand and executive director of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), presented the results of the study earlier this month. - Estelle Ellis
