LAWYERS for a convicted thief once again pulled out all the stops yesterday to sway the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court to keep their client out of prison.
This time the defence led evidence on the devastating effect direct imprisonment would have on Louise Bowker’s two young children.
Bowker, in her 30s, pleaded guilty almost a year ago to stealing R1.4-million from a Grahamstown vet to fund her lavish lifestyle.
Bowker, who claimed she was driven to steal because of a morbid envy of her friends, used the money to pay for her children’s private school fees, horse riding lessons and luxury holidays. – Kathryn Kimberley
