WHILE festivalgoers lauded it as one of the best fireworks displays Nelson Mandela Bay’s flagship Splash Festival has put on in years, animal lovers were not impressed as their furry friends whimpered in terror on Saturday night.

The loud bangs from the fireworks display at Hobie Beach echoed as far out as Lovemore Heights and New Brighton, sending animals into a panic and some running away from their homes.

Angry pet owners took to social networks, calling for fireworks to be banned completely. – Zandile Mbabela

Pieter lessingh you reveal your ignorance by your stupid comment! A dog’s ears are hundreds of times more sensitive to sound than a human and can hear higher frequencies than any human.Putting them in a house does not change that fact! Dogs especially pedigree jump through windows or sharp fences often injuring or killing themselves .In a country where millions do not even have a decent home and in a city where there is a huge backlog and hundreds of thousands of people do not have toilets as a ratepayer I think that the money could have been spent much better!!!

I think its ridiculous. Everyone knew about the firework display.
We heard it at our house as well. Why not just put your pets inside?
When i was growing up there use to be a lot of these
Firework displays, now they are fading out all because people complain
About it. If you love your pets, why are they not allowed in the house?
Rather complain about serious issues, there are a lot of those around.

LOL what a load of crap, rather spend tens of thousands of rands on something constructive, like fixing potholes, helping the poor, donating to the SPCA and the list can go on.
Fireworks causes air pollution noise pollution and it upsets most animals in the area, EVERYONE knows this… Its just a waste of money and it causes unnecessary stress for the voiceless…
